I hope by now you have gotten some rest away from the classroom. Those last couple of days were doozies….Enough said. I know you know this but we teachers contribute to the craziness all in the name of a little holiday fun. I mean school is supposed to be fun..right?? Even with all the mandates I still maintain the littles need time to be kids and they really need to see that their teachers love them as kids. Here is some of our last day before the break.
We did Gingerbread Theme Rotations with the First Grade Level on the last day. My wonderful teacher assistant and I created this big Gingerbread House in the Hallway for the kids to decorate as our part of the rotation.
Really Big Gingerbread House
As each group came to our class, they got to color some candy to go on the house. The next picture is after the house is full of candy. They loved it! We also danced to Harry Kindergartens Gingerbread Man Song.
Lots of Candy
After we decorated the house and had a snack we got ready to go home. We got ready early on this day because we had parent gifts to pack and our recess is the last 30 minutes of the day. I know…gasp..we have adjusted but it wasn’t any fun in the beginning.
As the days have progressed our tables have gotten very dirty (oh my what you can find under a name tag-scary!!!) so it was time to break out the shaving cream. We had a blast cleaning our tables before heading outside. It was a great way to end a fun day. Kids being kids and having fun. I don’t know about you but some days I just don’t want to hear about time on task and maximizing instructional time and neither so the children. So we enjoyed every minute of this small and gross motor development task so there now. It was fun, fun, fun!!!
Lots and Lots of Shaving Cream

We have had a week of assessing in my class this week. I don’t think we would have made it without some Brain Breaks from The Learning Station! The children love this one. Stomp and Clap by The Learning Station.
I hope you enter the giveaway and share it with friends! Bex and I are happy to be Treating Teachers!
All the best,
Who doesn’t love Mo Willems books? The only folks who would not love them are folks who haven’t read them yet. You can visit Mo Willems page here. These books are written in the style of the early readers series. There are not many words on a page and the words are often repeated. Using this app you can let Pigeon Drive the Bus, you can turn a scribble into a drawing and much more. A favorite is Elephant and Piggies Dance-O-Rama. I know my kids are going to love this app. I can’t wait to use Dance-O-Rama in my class. Children love to engage with the characters in the stories they read. But be forewarned…whatever you do stay away from the Mad Cow!
The app is Pigeon Presents Mo…On the Go!
I believe children need a lot of movement during the day at school. Long ago I had a very basic introduction to Brain Gym and I have continued to use the principles in my classroom. Brain Gym offers training for teachers but you can integrate the activities in your classroom by doing a bit of research. Brain Gym helps children to integrate the right and left brain domains to awaken the brain. I tell my children at school we need to wake up their brains each day. This is a very good introductory video using Brain Gym activities. After watching this you will have an idea of how to integrate Brain Gym Activities into you daily schedule. We always do some of the activities in the morning and then throughout the day if the we need a pick up. The video focuses on children who may learn differently but Brain Gym works for everyone by integrating sensory information. It provides calm and helps learners to focus. I think it is an excellent teaching resource. We have a lot of fun moving, exercising and getting our brains ready to learn.
We also enjoy the upbeat music of The Learning Station in our classroom. This is one of our favorites. We are always singing and moving in our classroom!
How do you foster joyful learning with children?
